摘要在資訊化的世界裡，人文與科技的結合是很重要的。圖書館是一種文明的象徵、文化的指標，也是人力素質的展現。圖書館的蓬勃發展正足以代表著一個國家人民的知識水平，也正呈現出該一國家的競爭力。終身繼續自我導向學習，將成為未來教育的主流。公共圖書館逐漸成為民眾學習、教育之中心， 以圖書館為節點，運用網路輸送學習資源訊息至學習者手中，不僅可達成讀者與圖書館間的供需平衡，且可帶來資源共享、降低成本等效益。
在資訊科技尚未進駐組織之前，圖書館一直扮演資訊中心的角色。舉凡各式各樣的資訊蒐集、典藏、分享的服務品質的提昇，都是館員努力以赴的目標。隨著資訊科技的蓬勃發展，圖書館也能利用圖書館自動化系統來執行各項工作以提昇服務品質。近年來，公共圖書館投資三億六千餘萬元在自動化系統之建置與應用上。然而，這些耗費大量資源投入的自動化系統應用現況如何？未來發展方向如何研擬？正是本研究探討的議題。冀望具有綜觀及微觀的決策者能透過本文的研究瞭解自動化系統服務現況，更進一步的研擬未來發展策略。;As a result of the rapid growth of information technology rapidly develop, libraries now deploy automation systems to improve their services. In the past few years, the government spent 360 million NT dollars on public library automation systems. How did it work? Was it worth while? In what direction are library automation systems heading? All these questions and issues this paper will discuss. The paper reviews automation systems of the public library first. Then through data

analysis the authors also propose suggestions for the public library automation systems in the near future.
